This week we had our Business Symposium! I felt there are many key takeaways regarding the symposium. From professional to resume and even life advice, I feel better prepared for my future career. Regarding professional advice, I learned to I received a lot of constructive feedback on my interview skills. One of the things that really stuck out to me was when Mr.James advised me on the right mentality to have when applying for a job. Thinking “it’s their loss if they don't hire me will bring confidence into my interview.” Thus, he stressed the importance of confidence and knowing your worth within a company is important. He also talked about how it is not desirable to work for a company that doesn't want you to work for them. This leads into not changing who you are to fit in or get the job at a company. Furthermore, in regards to life advice, the guest speaker has a lot of insight into developing your own personal brand. Even though I did my entire final product over personal branding, i still learned a lot of important things from his speech. One of those is to understand who you are before you go and market yourself. He left me with a quote that I am trying to implement into my studies and everyday life going forward. “Branding: communicating the essence of who you are in everything you do.”
