November 1st, 2016 - November 7th, 2016
This past week I have been able to conduct two informational interviews and have been spending a good amount of time on my original work proposal. The first informational interview I conducted was with Travis Hill who is the director of marketing at Iheartmedia. It was a very neat experience as I was able to view live studios and radio talk shows. The atmosphere was fun and exciting and I also learned a lot of valuable information from Mr.Hill. One of the key things that stuck out was the importance of passion in your job. From a marketing standpoint, it is important to love the product you're marketing in order to achieve success in accurately promoting the brand or product. For example, Mr.Hill is a lover of music, so working at Iheartmedia allows him to follow through with his passion by promoting various radio stations. Another important aspect in marketing that Mr.Hill explained is the method of telling a story through your marketing campaign. This is something that I can apply to my upcoming original work. On the topic of original work, I have decided to work with 911 trafficking, a nonprofit that aims to free youth from sex trafficking, and help create a marketing campaign that raises awareness of realities of sex trafficking in the Collin County area. Since I am passionate about this topic, I feel that I will be able to execute an original work that will prove my hard work ethic and drive in this ISM year. Overall this week has been a great learning opportunity as I am able to gain new insights and perspectives on marketing.
